Mokpo Coast Guard and Mokpo Education Support Office Join Hands to Specialize Small Schools
Signing of Business Agreement for Operation of Small School Specialized Model Schools and Marine Safety Education Focus Schools
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kwon Oh-seong) participated on the 26th in the ‘Jeonnam-type Small School Specialized Model School Business Agreement Ceremony and Mokpo Marine Safety Education Focus School Plaque Unveiling Ceremony’ to support Mokpo Seosan Elementary School, and plans to work together to specialize small schools.
According to Mokpo Maritime Police, Jeollanam-do is a representative region at risk of regional extinction, with ‘small schools’ (schools with 60 or fewer students) accounting for 45.9% of all schools (as of 2023).
Additionally, Mokpo was newly included this year as a region at risk of extinction, making it essential to prepare for regional extinction and small schools.

Mokpo Maritime Police joined the effort to overcome this crisis together and signed a business agreement for a small school specialized model school with Mokpo Seosan Elementary School, the smallest school in Mokpo, and the Mokpo Office of Education. The business agreement was also conducted together with the National Mokpo Maritime University and Mokpo City Urban Regeneration Support Center.
Mokpo Seosan Elementary School was selected as the first specialized model school among Jeonnam-type small schools, and Mokpo Maritime Police became the first among maritime police stations nationwide to sign a business agreement with an elementary school as a marine safety education focus school.
Mokpo Maritime Police will operate specialized programs in the field of marine education suitable for a marine safety education focus school. The marine safety education focus school will conduct educational courses such as △marine territory protection education △marine safety (survival) education △ship tours.
