Uljin County Takes Preventive Measures Against Heatwave Damage by Operating Water Sprinkler Trucks
Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province is making every effort to prevent heatwave-related damage as the long rainy season ends and a full-scale heatwave is expected.
Uljin County is making every effort to prevent heatwave damage in advance by operating water spraying trucks.
View original imageFrom July 26 through August, the county will operate nine water-spraying trucks during the hottest hours of the day on roads in six towns, including Uljin-eup, where there is a high flow of people, to alleviate the urban heat island effect on major roads. If the heatwave continues for an extended period, the operation period will be extended accordingly.
In addition to operating water-spraying trucks, the county has formed a heatwave task force team and is running 63 indoor cooling shelters and 140 outdoor cooling shelters to minimize heatwave damage and prevent heat-related illnesses.
In particular, the county expects that operating water-spraying trucks will reduce road surface radiant heat and alleviate the heat island effect, as well as help improve air quality by reducing fine dust and airborne dust on roads. This is also anticipated to prevent heat-related illnesses among residents and lower the perceived temperature, thereby creating a more comfortable living environment.
County Governor Son Byeongbok stated, "With the increasing possibility of abnormal weather phenomena such as extreme heat due to climate change, we will do our utmost to prevent heatwave damage and protect the health of our residents by operating water-spraying trucks and other measures." He added, "We kindly ask for the active cooperation of local drivers and residents to ensure that water-spraying trucks can operate smoothly in the town areas."
