Nakseongdae Park and Byeolbitnaerimcheon Water Playground Also Popular Every Year... Operated with Various Themes
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) has newly opened a children's water play theme park in the Sillim Valley area of Gwanaksan Mountain, establishing it as a popular summer getaway spot alongside the Sillim Valley water playground.
The district has been creating a "green space for healing in the city" through the Gwanaksan landmark project, aiming to realize a pleasant and refreshing clean living environment where nature and people coexist harmoniously.
Gwanaksan Mountain is a famous mountain in South Korea loved not only by Seoul citizens but by the entire nation, and it is a specialized resource of Gwanak-gu. With the opening of the Sillim Line light rail, visitors can enjoy the dense forest trails of Gwanaksan just about 100 meters on foot from Gwanaksan Station, greatly improving accessibility.
The district will introduce the "Gwanaksan Park Children's Water Playground," a representative summer healing space at the natural treasure Gwanaksan, starting July 20. The approximately 2,800㎡ children's water play theme park offers a more special and diverse experience compared to existing water playgrounds, allowing visitors to enjoy various healing courses of Gwanaksan.
First, the Gwanaksan Park water playground is located on the former rose garden site and is expected to create a synergy effect by linking with the "Natural Valley Water Playground," which attracts about 20,000 visitors annually.
Children can enjoy facilities such as combination play equipment, water tunnels, and umbrella water drops, creating exciting summer vacation memories. Adults can experience the natural beauty preserved in the Gwanaksan valley by dipping their feet in the valley water at the natural valley water playground.
After fully enjoying the water play, visitors can have a more relaxing vacation by visiting the modest yet charming log cabin "Forest Ecology Experience Center" and the "Gwanaksan Dulle-gil," designated as a Seoul walking trail, to understand the forest and nature while taking a stroll.
In addition to the water playground, the district is creating various healing spaces in Gwanaksan for residents' healthy leisure activities.
In the Sillim Valley area, a "Hwangtot-gil" (red clay path) will be created to provide a restorative time where visitors can feel the earth's energy by walking barefoot. The Hwangtot-gil runs along the Sillim Valley, allowing visitors to hear the sound of the valley water throughout their walk, offering a unique pleasure to those visiting Gwanaksan. The Hwangtot-gil, available by the end of August, will also have foot washing stations installed to ensure comfort after walking.
Moreover, the district will restore the river section around the entrance of Gwanaksan and open a water zone connecting Byeolbitnaerin Stream to Gwanaksan. Once fully restored, this section will create a river ecological axis extending from Gwanaksan to the Han River, allowing residents to enjoy a unique healing spot by cycling from Byeolbitnaerin Stream to the Han River.
Gwanak-gu also operates themed children's water playgrounds annually at Nakseongdae Park and Byeolbitnaerin Stream, which are very popular.
The "Nakseongdae Park Children's Water Playground" features large facilities such as air slides and air bounces comparable to water parks, while the "Byeolbitnaerin Stream Children's Water Playground" offers umbrella fountains, arch water features, four types of buckets, and sculptural showers, allowing visitors to enjoy refreshing water streams pouring from above.
Both Nakseongdae Park and Byeolbitnaerin Stream water playgrounds are located within a 10-minute walk from Nakseongdae Station and Sillim Station respectively, reducing travel burdens for residents using public transportation.
Admission and use of convenience facilities at the water playgrounds are free of charge, and they close during rainy weather.
During the operating period, safety personnel certified as emergency rescuers are stationed at all times to minimize accidents. Water quality management is strengthened by restricting pet entry, conducting regular water quality tests, and prohibiting food consumption. For Nakseongdae Park and Gwanaksan water playgrounds, a two-shift system (10:00?13:00, 14:00?17:00) is operated on weekends and public holidays when visitor numbers are high to provide a pleasant water play environment.
Mayor Park Jun-hee said, "We have made great efforts so that residents can enjoy summer in various ways, including water playgrounds, without having to travel far amid the economic downturn and busy daily lives. We will strive to create a Gwanak-gu where residents can rest and gain new energy in urban spaces, and where people from other regions also want to visit."
