Imsil Pilbong Nongak is a pungmul play passed down in Pilbong-ri, Gangjin-myeon, Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk Province, and is Registered as National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 11-5. Pilbong-ri is a mountainous farming village named after the shape of the mountain behind the village, which resembles the tip of a brush, hence the name Pilbong (筆峰). Recognized for its numerous performances held throughout the year for various purposes and events, it was inscribed on November 27, 2014, as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Dancing Sangsoe 'Pilbong Baeknyeon' is set in the turbulent 1970s, a period of traditional culture upheaval, and tells the story of Yang Sangsoe, who guarded the village ritual in Pilbong, his son Bongpil who left the village seeking success, and the lives of the Pilbong villagers who preserved Pilbong Nongak. As a traditional performance play where audiences can fully enjoy various traditional cultures such as traditional wedding ceremonies and cattle herding, it promises to deliver both entertainment and emotion.
