Nowon District Mayor Oh Seung-rok Conducts Emergency On-site Inspection of Valley Near Bogwangsa Temple in Sanggye 3·4-dong Amid Heavy Rain
Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) visited the valley near Bogwangsa Temple located in Sanggye 3 and 4-dong on the 18th and completed emergency drainage measures around 3:50 PM.
Bogwangsa Temple, situated at the foothills of Sanggye 3 and 4-dong, is classified as a vulnerable area to heavy rain disasters within the region, and the district has been closely monitoring it to prepare for flood and wind damage.
Due to continuous rain, employees of the Sanggye 3 and 4-dong Community Service Center discovered the valley water rising around 2:30 PM while patrolling the area. When the valley water began to overflow, they immediately reported to relevant departments and related agencies and took initial emergency measures.
The Sanggye 3 and 4-dong Community Service Center used sandbags to divert the water flow to minimize damage to residents caused by the valley water flowing toward residential areas and roads. They also restricted residents' access and requested emergency recovery support through a 24-hour emergency contact system.
Upon receiving the report, Mayor Oh immediately gathered related departments including the Green City Division, Flood Control Division, Civil Engineering Division, and Safety City Division at the site to assess the situation. Then, using an excavator urgently dispatched, they removed fallen branches and eroded soil carried by the heavy rain and cleared blocked drainage channels, completing recovery measures without major damage.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, "Through continuous patrols and attention, we prevented a crisis situation that could have led to a major accident," and added, "We will continue to remain vigilant and respond promptly to disaster situations to ensure the safety of residents."
