Power Outages and Resident Evacuations Reported Amid Heavy Rainfall in Chungnam

View original imageHeavy rain fell overnight in Chungnam, causing various damages including power outages.
According to Chungnam Province on the 17th, the average rainfall in Chungnam was 60mm, with more than 110mm recorded in Cheongnam-myeon, Cheongyang-gun; Iin-myeon, Gongju; and Buyeo-eup, Buyeo-gun.
Due to the rain, two utility poles were knocked down or power outages occurred due to lightning in two locations in Boryeong and two in Geumsan, causing inconvenience for residents. Restoration has been completed at three sites, while one is still being addressed.
In preparation for possible flooding, 22 places including walking trails and Sewolgyo bridges were closed off.
The fire department completed 119 safety measures, including tree removal and drainage work.
There were no casualties, but in preparation for landslides and flooding, 103 people from 67 households evacuated in six cities and counties: Gongju, Boryeong, Nonsan, Geumsan, Buyeo, and Cheongyang.
The heavy rain advisories issued for all 15 cities and counties have been lifted, but landslide warnings and advisories remain in effect in six areas including Buyeo.
The province plans to assess the damage in vulnerable areas and begin emergency restoration work.
