Uiryeong-gun's Eungbongsan Development Project Wins Top Excellence Award for Outstanding Administration and Policy in 2024
Top 100 Luxury Forests in Korea ... Eungbongsan Hwanggeumbuja Forest in Uiryeong
Uiryeong County in Gyeongnam announced on the 15th that its "Uiryeong Eungbongsan Leading Forest Management Complex Development Project" received the Grand Prize among basic local governments (counties) at the 2024 Excellent Administration and Policy Case Selection Contest, hosted by the Korea Public Policy Evaluation Association.
The Uiryeong Eungbongsan Leading Forest Management Complex Development Project was selected as a Korea Forest Service public offering project in 2019, and has been continuously investing a total of 7.5 billion KRW, including national and local funds, from 2019 to 2028 over a 10-year period. Now in its sixth year, Uiryeong County, the Uiryeong County Forestry Cooperative, and over 270 forest owners are working together to manage 843 hectares of forest in Yugok-myeon, Yongdeok-myeon, and Jeonggok-myeon of Uiryeong County as a model case.

View original imageIn the evaluation hosted by the Korea Forest Service, the project was selected as the nation's top complex for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023. In September last year, to mark the 50th anniversary of national reforestation, the "Uiryeong Eungbongsan Hwanggeum Buja Forest" was chosen as one of the "Top 100 Premium Forests in Korea" by the Korea Forest Service.
Last year, the Eungbongsan Forest Management Complex attracted about 2,000 visitors, including local government and forestry cooperative officials, forest experience education participants, and tourists, demonstrating its growing popularity.
An official from the county stated, "We will further enhance our competitiveness by increasing income and creating jobs using the county's greatest resource?its forests?and by linking these efforts with surrounding tourism resources."
