Incheon City to Nurture Semiconductor Talent from High School to Master's and Doctorate Levels... Selected for 4 Public Project Competitions
Securing 41 Billion Won in National Funding by 2029... Training 3,100 People
Incheon City is collaborating with local universities and companies to nurture semiconductor talent at every stage, from high school to master's and doctoral levels.
On the 12th, the city announced that Inha University and Yonsei University were selected for the Ministry of Education's semiconductor talent cultivation project, the 'Semiconductor Specialized University Support Project,' and Inha Technical College was selected for the 'Semiconductor Talent Bootcamp Project.'
As a result, following the selection of Incheon Semiconductor High School's 'Agreement-type Specialized High School Project' and Inha University's 'Industrial Innovation Talent Growth Support (Overseas Linkage) Project' in May, a total of four semiconductor workforce development projects have been selected this year, securing a total of 41 billion KRW in national funding through 2029, aiming to train 3,100 semiconductor talents.

Out of 32 universities (alliances) nationwide that applied in the semiconductor field, nine universities were selected. Inha University was selected along with Kangwon National University as a metropolitan-nonmetropolitan co-growth type, and Yonsei University was selected as a metropolitan standalone type. The total national funding secured amounts to 26.8 billion KRW.
Inha University will specialize in 'chiplet semiconductors' and train about 350 students over four years. Yonsei University will specialize in the fields of 'device and process development, circuit and system' and plans to train about 360 students over four years. In particular, starting from the 2025 academic year, Yonsei University will establish an Intelligent Semiconductor major at its Songdo International Campus, selecting 35 freshmen to nurture talents who will lead core future technologies in artificial intelligence semiconductor foundational technology.
Additionally, Inha Technical College was selected for the Semiconductor Talent Bootcamp and will receive 7.5 billion KRW in national funding over five years starting this year to jointly develop and provide a short-term intensive education program for students aspiring to work in the semiconductor field in collaboration with companies. The goal is to train a total of 900 semiconductor professionals, awarding micro-degrees to graduates and assisting them in finding related employment.
