According to Sangmyung University, fourth-year students Jang Junguk and Kim Taeho won the Best Student Award with their project "Floating Lens House" at the "Tiny House Competition," an international architecture competition hosted by Volume Zero.
In this international competition, 459 teams of professionals and students, including architects from Korea and abroad, participated. The top 50 teams were selected in the first round, after which detailed award winners were chosen.
Along with fourth-year students Jang Junguk and Kim Taeho, third-year student Choi Minseok from the Space Design major at Sangmyung University was also ranked in the top 50 with the project "Oasis In The Wettest Desert."
The Best Student Award-winning project, "Floating Lens House," is a house supported by two pillars, designed to adapt to various natural terrains while minimizing its environmental impact by reducing the area in contact with the ground.
The central space is designed with transparent glass walls, floors, and ceilings to harmonize with nature, and it was highly praised for its features that allow self-sufficient house management through a rainwater collection system and solar energy.
Kim Taeho said, "It is an honor to have received the Best Student Award in an international architecture competition where I participated to share diverse ideas on a single topic with architects from around the world and to redefine my own values."
