Sports trainer Hwang Cheol-soon (40), who was prosecuted for assaulting an acquaintance woman, was sentenced to prison in the first trial and taken into custody in court.
On the 11th, Judge Park So-jung of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 2 sentenced Hwang, who was charged with assault, assault causing injury, and property damage, to one year in prison and ordered his detention in court, citing "risk of flight."
The court stated, "The victim consistently and specifically testified about the main aspects such as the circumstances, method, and location of the assault from the investigation stage to the courtroom."
Hwang was indicted for allegedly hitting the victim, Ms. A, more than 20 times on the face and head with his fists and repeatedly kicking her face during an argument in an outdoor parking lot of a building in Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do, on October 16 last year.
It was also investigated that Hwang grabbed Ms. A by the hair, dragged her to a vehicle, seated her in the passenger seat, and assaulted her with his hands. During this process, he threw Ms. A's cellphone onto the ground, breaking it, and punched the driver's door, denting it. Ms. A sustained injuries including fractures requiring three weeks of treatment.
Hwang was also investigated for assaulting Ms. A by hitting her head two to three times and pulling her hair at his home on August 1 of the same year.
