In the People Power Party virtual primary
Han Dong-hoon leads against all candidates
A public opinion poll showed that former lawmaker Kim Du-kwan is closely trailing former leader Lee Jae-myung in the suitability survey for the next leader of the Democratic Party of Korea. However, when narrowing the target to Democratic Party supporters, Lee was found to be overwhelmingly ahead.
According to the poll released on the 11th by Media Tomato (conducted nationwide over two days from the 8th to 9th via wireless ARS targeting men and women aged 18 and older, commissioned by News Tomato), Lee's support rate was 44.9%, while Kim's was 37.8%. The gap between the two candidates' support rates is outside the margin of error (±3.1 percentage points). Looking at regions and age groups, Lee led in most categories, but Kim was ahead among those aged 60 and older, in Daegu·Gyeongbuk, Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam, supporters of the People Power Party and the Reform New Party, and conservative-leaning respondents.
However, considering the nature of the party convention, the trend among the most important Democratic Party supporters shows Lee far ahead. Among Democratic Party supporters (346 out of 1001 respondents, weighted), 87.7% expressed support for Lee. In contrast, only 9.9% supported Kim.
Regarding the People Power Party leadership election, a hypothetical runoff poll was conducted assuming no candidate receives a majority in the first round. In this poll, candidate Han Dong-hoon was found to be far ahead of candidates Na Kyung-won, Won Hee-ryong, and Yoon Sang-hyun.
In a hypothetical runoff against Na, Han led with 47.7% to 25.2%. Against Won, Han also led with 47.8% to 21.3%. In a hypothetical runoff against Yoon, Han received 51.1%, significantly higher than Yoon's 21.6%.
When narrowing down to the most important group, People Power Party supporters, Han's lead was even greater. Among People Power Party supporters (382 out of 1001 respondents, weighted), Han was found to have over 70% support against all three candidates.
Although Han is dominating, the gap in support rates (Han's support rate minus each candidate's support rate) shows that Na has the smallest gap. Among all respondents, Na trails by 22.5 percentage points, while Won trails by 26.5 points and Yoon by 29.5 points. Among People Power Party supporters only, Na trails by 48.5 points, Won by 50.1 points, and Yoon by 63.9 points.
