Hadong High School and Hadong Girls' High School Merger 'Paused' ... Agenda to Be Submitted After Four-Party Debate
The plan to merge Hadong High School and Hadong Girls' High School, promoted by the Gyeongnam Office of Education due to reasons such as the declining school-age population, is facing difficulties.
On the 10th, the provincial Office of Education announced that the board of directors of the Hadong Yookyoungwon Foundation, which operates Hadong Girls' High School, was scheduled to convene at the school to deliberate on whether to continue operating Hadong Girls' High School, but the agenda was not submitted.
According to the Office of Education, the foundation stated, "The merger of the two schools is a significant issue that requires discussion with the head of school support, the Hadong county governor, the Hadong superintendent of education, and the directors of the Hadong Yookyoungwon Foundation," and therefore did not submit the agenda.
The board meeting was attended by seven directors, two auditors, the principals of Hadong Girls' High School and Hadong Middle School, and the administrative director.
A briefing session for parents and residents regarding the merger of Hadong High School and Hadong Girls' High School was held.

Afterwards, the provincial Office of Education plans to hold a four-party discussion involving the Office of Education, Hadong County, Hadong Yookyoungwon Foundation, and the Office of Education Support, and will request that the board deliberate on the agenda.
Recently, a survey conducted by the provincial Office of Education targeting 2,025 parents from all elementary and middle schools in Hadong, as well as Hadong High School and Hadong Girls' High School, showed that 68% of parents were in favor of the merger.
If more than two-thirds of the board members approve the closure of the school, the provincial Office of Education will complete the administrative procedures for the merger after a 20-day administrative notice period and plans to open the newly integrated public Hadong High School.
