Three Dead in Chungnam Due to Landslides and Flooding Caused by Torrential Rain (Summary)
Governor Kim Taeheum Visits Affected Cities and Counties to Inspect Recovery Efforts and Console Residents
In the early morning of the 10th, a torrential downpour hit Chungnam, resulting in three fatalities.
According to Chungnam Province, as of 5 a.m. that day, 240.5mm of rain fell in Yanghwa-myeon, Buyeo-gun, 229mm in Seocheon, 194.5mm in Yeonmu-eup, Nonsan, and 185mm in Chunjangdae, Seocheon-gun.
Landslides occurred in Geumsan, Seocheon, and Nonsan due to the rain, and flooding led to three deaths.
In Geumsan, at around 10:49 a.m., a report was received stating that a person was buried due to a landslide.
The fire department found a woman in her 60s after searching for about three hours and transported her to the hospital, but she was pronounced dead.
Earlier, at around 3:57 a.m., a house collapsed due to a landslide in Seocheon-gun, burying a man in his 70s, identified as Mr. A, under the debris. He was found in cardiac arrest and transported to the hospital, but died.
At around 3 a.m., a report was received that an elevator was flooded on the second basement floor of an officetel in Nonsan.
Responding to an emergency call for help, the fire department conducted drainage and rescue operations, but found one man dead.
Governor Kim Tae-heum visited the three affected cities and counties that day to inspect the recovery process and offer condolences to the residents.
Governor Kim stated, "We will promptly conduct damage assessments and emergency restoration," adding, "For permanent recovery, we will request a budget from the national government and work together with the province and local governments to prevent future disasters."
