GS25 is launching a prepaid USIM product for overseas travel to target the growing demand for international trips.
GS Retail, which operates convenience store GS25, announced on the 10th that it will introduce 'Easy USIM for Overseas Travel,' a prepaid USIM card usable in 40 countries worldwide, in collaboration with telecommunications solution company Code Mobile.

This product is a so-called 'open ticket' type USIM, meaning customers do not need to decide the destination country or usage period at the time of purchase. Even if travel plans change, users can switch the product without additional costs. GS25 explained that this product was planned to provide reasonable and convenient overseas communication services to the increasing number of travelers during the summer vacation season.
The usage method is simple. After purchasing the USIM, customers scan the QR code printed on the back of the card, select the travel country, duration, and data usage, and pay the fee to activate the service. Data can be used in over 40 countries worldwide, including Japan, Europe, and the United States. The price for purchasing the USIM card alone is 3,000 KRW, separate from the data fees.
The Easy USIM product enhances price competitiveness to reduce the burden of overseas communication costs amid high inflation. It partners with major global roaming networks to offer rates up to 80% cheaper than standard roaming prices for the same regions. Data plans range from a minimum of 1GB to unlimited, allowing users to choose the plan that best suits their needs.
The hassle of receiving prepaid USIM cards has also been eliminated. Previously, customers had to order prepaid USIMs online and wait 1-2 days for delivery or pick them up at the airport. Now, with availability at nearby convenience stores, the purchase convenience and accessibility for travelers have improved. This method is said to be helpful for unexpected overseas trips.
In fact, GS25 conducted a pilot sale at three stores in Incheon International Airport during June, and sales during late-night and early-morning hours (10 PM to 6 AM) accounted for the highest proportion at 38.1%. GS25 analyzed that there was significant demand from travelers who had not purchased a USIM in advance or had to depart urgently.
The Easy USIM for Overseas Travel product will be expanded to nationwide stores starting in August. Additionally, GS25 plans to launch an 'eSIM' service on the Our Neighborhood GS app in the second half of this year. The eSIM is embedded in the phone device itself, allowing activation simply by scanning a QR code without a physical USIM card, making it convenient.
Kim Hyung-gon, manager of the Service Product Team at GS Retail, said, "As the peak summer vacation season begins, we have launched a prepaid overseas USIM with improved price and convenience to provide customers with the best overseas travel experience. GS25 will continue to expand its product offerings from food to everyday essentials as a comprehensive lifestyle platform."
