Selected as an Excellent Institution for 2 Consecutive Years and Awarded the Presidential Prize for the First Time in 6 Years, Secured Special Grant of 245 Million KRW and Reward of 13 Million KRW... ‘Seongdong-type Semi-basement Policy’ Recognized as an Outstanding Disaster Policy Case, Receiving High Praise for Proactive Disaster Safety Measures
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Wono) was selected as the best institution in the '2024 Disaster Management Evaluation,' securing the Presidential Citation along with a special grant of 245 million KRW and a reward of 13 million KRW.
The Disaster Management Evaluation is conducted annually by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety under the Framework Act on the Management of Disasters and Safety. It assesses the disaster management capabilities at each stage (common, prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, and scoring) of 332 disaster-responsible institutions nationwide, including central government ministries, local governments, and public institutions, to enhance the national level of disaster management.
This year, the evaluation covered disaster management performance in 2023 across six areas and 88 detailed indicators, including disaster management personnel composition and budget, education, facility safety management, manual and related agency cooperation system establishment, and training. Special emphasis was placed on the disaster situation response capability to assess the institutions' practical response and recovery abilities.
Seongdong-gu received high scores in disaster safety interest and policy evaluation for institution heads such as the mayor and deputy mayor. Additionally, the 'Seongdong-type Semi-basement Policy' was selected as an excellent disaster policy case, reflecting the outstanding evaluation of Seongdong-gu's proactive disaster safety policies.
As a result of the comprehensive evaluation, Seongdong-gu ranked first among Seoul's autonomous districts and was awarded the Presidential Citation. This achievement marks the second consecutive year Seongdong-gu has been selected as an excellent institution following its recognition in the 2023 Disaster Management Evaluation.
This award is especially significant as it is the first Presidential Citation in six years since the 2018 Disaster Management Evaluation.
