Government Congratulates Elected Iranian President Raeisi: "Expecting Friendly Relations"
Official Statement by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The government congratulated Masoud Pezeshkian on his election as president of Iran and expressed hope that the friendly relations between Korea and Iran will further improve in the future.
On the 6th, the government issued a statement through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson regarding the Iranian presidential election results, saying, "We hope that under the new government, Iran will constructively contribute to regional stability and move toward a path of prosperity and development."
Iran held a presidential by-election after the sudden death of former hardline conservative President Ebrahim Raisi, who took office in 2021, in a helicopter crash last May. Since no candidate secured a majority in the first round of voting on the 28th of last month, a runoff was held on the 5th, resulting in the moderate reformist candidate Pezeshkian being elected as the final winner.
