Korail Wins Contract for Advanced Operation and Maintenance of Bangladesh Railway Vehicles
Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on the 4th that it has won a 4.7 billion KRW contract for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) project titled "Bangladesh Passenger Car Operation and Maintenance Advancement Project."
By 2027, KORAIL will transfer maintenance technology for Korean-made railway vehicles operating on the Dhaka?Chittagong line. This marks KORAIL’s fourth contract in Bangladesh.
The main project components include organizational management and workforce operation, provision of maintenance equipment, training of maintenance experts, and support for establishing an electronic device repair team. KORAIL plans to form a consortium with domestic small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) specializing in railway vehicle maintenance to help these SMEs expand their market access and exports.
Meanwhile, KORAIL is strengthening cooperation as a key partner in the modernization of Bangladesh Railways by participating in projects such as the "Locomotive Maintenance Technology Transfer Project" and the "Feasibility Study for Dhaka Metro Line 5." KORAIL is also focusing on securing additional contracts, including railway vehicle exports and upgrading vehicle maintenance bases, which are currently under review by Bangladesh Railway. The company plans to expand its business into railway operation and maintenance consulting as well.
