Uljin-gun Conducts Preliminary Demand Survey for Innovative Agriculture Town Project
Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province is conducting a preliminary demand survey for the Gyeongbuk Innovative Agriculture Town Development Project, which aims to double agricultural income through new management methods of joint farming, until July 31.
The 'Innovative Agriculture Town Development Project' is a core project of agricultural transformation promoted by North Gyeongsang Province. In this project, young farmers and existing farmers in rural villages form a single farming corporation. Existing farmers provide farmland to the corporation, and joint farming led by young farmers enables scaling up and mechanization, thereby increasing rural income and integrating welfare?a new concept in agricultural business.
North Gyeongsang Province designated Mungyeong, Yecheon, and Gumi as Innovative Agriculture Towns in 2023, and this year added Sangju, Bonghwa, Yeongdeok, Cheongsong, Gyeongju, and Cheongdo. Uljin County is conducting the demand survey with the goal of being selected for next year.
The project targets organizations formed at the field or village level. For double cropping, participation consent from farms covering at least 50 hectares is required; for greenhouse crops, at least 10 hectares; and for open-field or orchard crops, at least 20 hectares. Corporatization must be completed before the project is finished.
If selected for the project, up to 80% of the required funds for facilities, equipment, joint collection, sorting and storage facilities, and modernization of production facilities will be supported, ranging from 500 million to 1 billion KRW depending on area and crop type.
County Governor Son Byeongbok said, "We hope for much interest and participation, as this is a great opportunity for young farmers and elderly landowners to continuously increase their income through joint farming and revitalize rural villages."
