The cooling fog system is an outdoor cooling device that lowers the surrounding temperature by about 3 to 5 degrees as finely sprayed water evaporates. Hwagokbon-dong Market has over 50 stores densely packed within the arcade and was vulnerable to heat waves, with indoor temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius during summer.
Accordingly, the district installed a total of 34 cooling fog systems along a 150-meter section of the Hwagokbon-dong Market arcade. The district expects that the installation of this cooling fog system will provide a comfortable shopping environment and help maintain the freshness of market display products such as agricultural and marine products.
The cooling fog system uses fine water particles that evaporate quickly without wetting clothes or skin, and it is safe as it uses purified water. It reduces fine dust and ozone generation and is also effective in removing odors.
Meanwhile, with the completion of the Hwagokbon-dong Market, the district has finished installing cooling fog systems in six traditional markets in the area, including Songhwa Mural Market and Bangsin Traditional Market.
