Police to Summon Suspect in Hwaseong Arisel Factory Fire as Early as Next Week
The police investigating the fire accident at Arisel, a primary battery company in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi Province, plan to summon and interrogate the suspects, including CEO Park Soon-kwan of Arisel, as early as next week.

View original imageOn the 29th, the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency's Arisel Fire Accident Investigation Headquarters reported that most employees came in over the weekend to analyze the seized items obtained from Arisel and the manpower supply companies Meisel and Hanshin Dia. Earlier, on the 26th, the police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor conducted a search and seizure operation on these companies.
Along with the analysis of the seized items, witness investigations are ongoing. If additional verification is needed during the analysis, the relevant witnesses are summoned for questioning. So far, about ten people have been investigated.
The investigation of the five suspects, including CEO Park and officials from the manpower supply companies, who were booked in connection with this fire, has not yet taken place. The police plan to complete the analysis of the seized items as soon as possible and summon them for questioning as early as next week.
A police official said, "We are currently focusing on analyzing the seized items and investigating witnesses, and will summon the suspects later to conduct the necessary investigations. We are conducting a strict investigation according to principles and procedures."

The fire occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on the 24th at the Arisel factory in Jeongok-ri, Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong-si. The fire resulted in 23 deaths and 8 injuries.
