"Why Not Sell Alcohol?"... 60-Year-Old Man Arrested and Prosecuted for Threatening with Scissors
Charges Including Special Threat Recidivism
A man who threatened a woman in her 60s operating a street stall for not selling alcohol has been indicted while in custody.
The Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Seung-hoon) announced on the 28th that they have formally charged Mr. A (68), who threatened a woman in her 60s operating a street stall with scissors, with violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes (repeat offense of special intimidation) and other charges, and he is currently detained.
Mr. A is accused of placing scissors behind the woman operating the street stall on April 28th and threatening her by saying, "I will stab you to death," because she did not sell alcohol.
Initially, the police referred the suspect for special intimidation charges, but after confirming that he is a habitual violent offender with eight prior convictions for similar crimes, he was detained and referred for prosecution under the more severe charge of repeat special intimidation.
Investigations revealed that Mr. A had been causing disturbances continuously, and after being questioned by prosecutors, he visited the victim to seek a settlement. The victim expressed to the prosecutors that she did not want to press charges due to fear of retaliation, but the prosecutors met with the victim directly and conducted an investigation to prevent further issues in advance.
