Construction of the 2nd Geumgang Bridge Begins, Securing Design Funds for Geumgang National Garden Among Achievements
Choi Won-cheol, mayor of Gongju City, Chungnam Province, stated on the 26th, "We will strive to build a strong Gongju City where citizens are happy."
On the occasion of his 2nd anniversary in office, Mayor Choi held a press conference at the Jiphyeon Room in City Hall and said, "The past two years have been dedicated to making communication and service the basic philosophy of administration, and we have worked hard to meet the strong desire of citizens who wish for change and innovation."
He cited major achievements such as △the groundbreaking of the 2nd Geumgang Bridge after 7 years △approval of the Gongju~Sejong metropolitan BRT project △securing design costs for the Geumgang (Eocheon~Jukdang) National Garden.
In particular, he self-assessed, "We attracted a record-breaking 1.8 million visitors to the 2023 Great Baekje Festival, held the first-ever Korea Chestnut Expo nationwide, and successfully hosted the Cultural Heritage Night Tour for the 8th consecutive time, demonstrating our strength as a representative historical and cultural tourism city in the central region."
He emphasized, "We will lead the revival of the royal capital area through projects such as the Ungjin Baekje Cultural Village, Jumasan Forest Leisure Sports Facilities, and religious tourism pilgrimage routes."
He also stated, "We will focus on creating tourism hubs centered on the Geumgang River, including environmental improvements in the Pyeongmok district along the river, restoration of the old Geumgang waterway, and the establishment of the Geumgang National Garden."
Mayor Choi said, "Since the 8th term of the local government, we have attracted investments totaling 821.1 billion KRW from 59 companies. We will create a business-friendly advanced industrial complex to revitalize the local economy."
He explained, "By attracting the Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute and related agencies from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, we plan to expand and establish a food safety cluster in Donghyeon-dong, adjacent to Sejong City."

In particular, he emphasized, "We will push forward urban development projects in Seungseon and Donghyeon districts, create residential complexes in the Ungjin-dong area, and advance urban development projects in Geumheung and Wolsong districts. We will also foster Gongju-style drone specialized cities to become new growth hubs for Gongju City."
