Haenam-gun Secures 250 Million KRW in National Funding to Improve Regional Safety Levels
The Only Selection in the Province, Implementation of Safety Vulnerable Area Improvement Project for a Safer Haenam
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, has been selected for the 2024 Facility Improvement and Standard Model Development Project conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing 500 million KRW (250 million KRW in national funds) for safety-vulnerable area improvement projects.
According to the county on the 24th, the 2024 Facility Improvement and Standard Model Development Project selects local governments that strive to improve regional safety index ratings announced annually, develops effective standard models, and spreads them nationwide. Haenam-gun was the only local government selected in Jeollanam-do.
As the number of disaster-vulnerable groups such as seniors aged 65 and older and children increases, the county applied for the project targeting the relatively vulnerable traffic accident sector. It plans to install luminous signs to secure visibility in protected areas within the jurisdiction and two-way surveillance cameras for the safety of pedestrians and vehicle operators.
In May, the county was also selected for the 2024 Regional Safety Level Improvement Consulting Project and is currently conducting professional consulting with Haenam Fire Station, Haenam Police Station, and the National Disaster Safety Research Institute to systematically manage safety vulnerability factors in the region. Furthermore, based on the first consulting analysis results in July, the county plans to newly discover projects that departments and related organizations can promote.
In particular, aiming to improve the regional safety index by one grade, Haenam-gun is operating a Regional Safety Index Improvement TF Promotion Team, checking 28 promotion tasks by department and the status of operation of 85 disaster safety budgets.
