59 Heat Illness Patients in Gyeonggi-do... Twice as Many as Same Period Last Year
The number of 'heat illness patients' in Gyeonggi Province has surpassed 50.
According to Gyeonggi Province on the 21st, since the first patient occurred on the 22nd of last month, a total of 59 heat illness patients have been reported in the province as of the 19th of this month. This is twice the number of patients (30) during the same period last year. It also accounts for 22% of the patients (264) nationwide.
On the 19th alone, 9 patients were reported in 7 cities and counties within the province, including Hwaseong, Namyangju, Suwon, Uijeongbu, and Paju.
By disease type, heat exhaustion is the most common with 43 cases. This is followed by ▲heat stroke 8 cases ▲heat cramps 4 cases ▲heat syncope 3 cases ▲others 1 case. However, no deaths have occurred. By age group, people in their 20s are the most affected with 12 cases, followed by those in their 50s with 11 cases, and those in their 60s with 10 cases.
Meanwhile, as the scorching heat continues, Gyeonggi Province has increased the number of emergency duty public officials to 400 in cooperation with cities and counties within the province, and the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters has expanded the 119 heat emergency ambulance vehicles to 281.

Additionally, 554 more indoor heat relief shelters have been designated, operating a total of 8,288 locations. In particular, 4,600 care workers have been deployed to provide safety checks and protective measures for 89,000 elderly care service recipients.
