Busan Office of Education Supports Mobile 'School Kitchen' Educational Community Dining Table
Support for Addressing Regional Nutritional Imbalance and Disparities
Seasonal Side Dish Cooking Classes Offered at Schools
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will operate the on-site 'School Kitchen' project for approximately 400 students, parents, school staff, and local residents until the end of October.
'School Kitchen' is a school community space where members of the educational community prepare meals together, learn cooking methods, and share healthy food.
This project was established to address regional nutritional imbalances and disparities by supporting healthy eating habits, increasing interest in dietary practices, and promoting the health of the educational community during their developmental years.
This is the first project of its kind to be implemented nationwide by the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education. Five schools with a high proportion of low-income students, selected from those targeted for closing regional education gaps, will each host four sessions (with about 20 participants per session).
At 'School Kitchen', practical cooking classes are offered to teach how to easily prepare seasonal side dishes at home. Professional organizations will visit schools to teach how to make three types of side dishes: kimchi, namul (seasoned vegetables), and bokkeum (stir-fried or braised dishes).
