SK C&C Receives Presidential Citation in Information Culture Development...Recognition for ESG Practice Activities
SK C&C announced on the 20th that it received the "Presidential Citation in the Field of Information Culture Development" at the ceremony commemorating the "37th Information Culture Month," hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
SK C&C was recognized for its contributions to realizing a digitally inclusive society and fostering a healthy information culture by addressing the digital information gap, promoting sound information culture, and responding to digital dysfunctions. Its efforts to bridge the digital information gap using digital technology in local communities, including for young people with disabilities, and its ESG (Environment, Social, Corporate Governance) practice activities were acknowledged as meritorious.
Since 2017, SK C&C has been operating the "SIAT" program in partnership with the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled. This program is regarded as a model case for nurturing and hiring young IT professionals with disabilities. SK C&C has formed the "SIAT Alliance" with major companies such as Google, IBM, and Megazone Cloud to jointly design and operate customized education courses by ICT job roles and provide employment support. As of last year, 222 out of 243 young people with disabilities who completed the SIAT program successfully found employment.
SK C&C also raises the "Happiness IT Scholarship" annually through employee donations to support young people with disabilities aspiring to become IT experts. Now in its 20th year, this scholarship fund has raised a total of 1.64 billion KRW to date, supporting a total of 1,007 students. This year, 120 million KRW in scholarships was awarded to 38 Happiness IT Scholars, including 34 undergraduates and 4 graduate students.
SK C&C is also leading efforts to spread community carbon neutrality practices through the app "Haenggarae," which encourages ESG practices in daily life. Launched in July 2020, the Haenggarae app incorporates various ESG activities such as healthy walking, stair use, tumbler use, blood donation certification, zero food waste practices, and plogging, tailored to the characteristics of companies and institutions.
Users can certify their ESG activities through the Haenggarae app and accumulate points that can be used for donations or purchasing products from social enterprises, promoting value-based consumption.
