"What Happens When Resident Priority Parking Lots Are Shared?"... Songpa-gu Leads the Spread of Sharing Culture
Expanding the 'Free Parking Sharing Project' in Collaboration with Kapos
"If You Share Your Parking Space, 50% of the Fee Income Goes to the Sharer"
Songpa-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced on the 20th that it is taking the lead in spreading a culture of parking lot sharing to alleviate the severe parking shortage.
The district is conducting a "shared parking project" targeting resident-priority parking spaces to eliminate parking difficulties in general residential areas. This project requires the consent of the space allottee and encourages voluntary participation through incentives and promotions.
If applicants for resident-priority parking agree to share their parking spaces, the district awards additional points and provides 50% of the parking fee revenue as an incentive. Additionally, signs are posted throughout the area to guide residents on how to share resident-priority parking spaces via a mobile app.
In cooperation with the Seoul Automobile Specialized Maintenance Business Association Songpa Branch (Carforce), the district is also promoting the "Free Parking Sharing Project (Songpa-gu Sharing Parking Lots)."
This project opens idle spaces at maintenance shops affiliated with Carforce to nearby residents as free parking during non-business hours. Currently, the "Songpa-gu Sharing Parking Lots" project offers 68 parking spaces across 35 locations.
The project has received positive responses from residents in densely populated residential areas, and the district plans to gradually expand the project starting this year. Through continuous promotion, the district aims to discover more participating shops and secure additional parking spaces.
In May, the district established the "Pungnap Market Shared Parking Lot." By reorganizing seven lots including 141-1 Pungnap-dong, where compensation was completed, a total of 44 parking spaces were created, including 23 shared parking spaces. Visitors to the market and residents, or anyone in need of parking, can use the lot at an affordable rate of 600 KRW per 30 minutes.
