Seongdong-gu Operates 'Environmental Education Center' for Carbon Neutrality Initiatives
Plaque Unveiling Ceremony Held on the 16th, Expected to Raise Residents' Awareness of Climate Change Crisis and Environmental Conservation
Environmental Programs for All Ages Covering Carbon Neutrality, Zero Waste, Upcycling, and Recycling Concepts and Necessity
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Wono) announced that it will operate the 'Seongdong-gu Environmental Education Center,' a hub institution for environmental education, to respond to the climate change crisis and raise residents' awareness of environmental conservation.
Seongdong-gu plans to operate the 'Seongdong-gu Environmental Education Center' by designating the 'Eco-friendly Experience Center,' which has been in operation since 2017, until December 2027. To commemorate this, a plaque ceremony was held on June 19.
To this end, the district established the legal basis for the installation of the education center by enacting the "Seongdong-gu Environmental Education Activation Support Ordinance" in 2021.
The 'Seongdong-gu Environmental Education Center' operates various environmental education programs covering concepts and necessities such as carbon neutrality, zero waste, upcycling, and recycling. In particular, by customizing the education methods according to age groups, it is expected to greatly help induce residents to practice eco-friendly lifestyles and lay the foundation for building a carbon-neutral city.
Additionally, since it is located adjacent to the Seoul Sewerage Science Museum at Saeup Plaza (49 Jadongcha Market-gil), it is expected that high-quality program operation will be possible through the linkage of educational infrastructure.
Seongdong-gu conducts lifecycle environmental education for all ages from infants to adults. Especially, the 'Seongdong-gu Environmental Academy,' which has no age restrictions, has received positive responses from students, producing a total of 200 graduates. If graduates wish, they can participate as environmental instructors, and the academy also operates advanced courses and resident instructor training programs.
