"Mart Becomes Dessert Hotspot"…Emart Expands 'Kitchen Deli' Lineup
10 Types of Cakes and 3 Types of Greek Yogurt Added
Emart announced on the 20th that its ready-to-eat corner, ‘Kitchen Deli,’ will expand its lineup to include desserts. The 13 new dessert products being introduced this time consist of 10 types of cakes and 3 types of Greek yogurt, created through collaboration between Emart and dessert specialty brands.
First, Emart will exclusively launch the retail-only brand ‘Billy Angel Home Cafe’ through collaboration with ‘Billy Angel.’ Billy Angel is a premium dessert cafe operating about 30 stores nationwide, starting with its Hongdae branch in 2012. While desserts are sold at 6,000 to 8,000 KRW in stores, Emart sells them at 3,480 KRW each.
Along with this, ahead of the peak vacation season, Emart will also sell three collaboration products with ‘Greek Day’ for customers who are dieting and want a light meal replacement or dessert. The three Emart collaboration products are ‘Honey Greek Yogurt (Granola, Banana Granola, Mango),’ each offering a variety of flavors depending on the toppings, and are sold at 3,980 KRW each.
The reason Emart is strengthening its dessert lineup is that, due to rising prices, more customers are visiting large marts’ deli corners instead of dining out or ordering delivery. In fact, from the 1st of last month to the 18th of this month, total sales of Emart Kitchen Deli’s ready meals increased by 12% compared to the same period last year. In particular, sales of gimbap and sandwiches, which provide affordable meal options, grew significantly by 53.6% and 36.9%, respectively.
