On the 18th, Daejeon City held a mid-term report meeting for the operation agency of the ‘2024 Daejeon 0 o'clock Festival’ at the city hall's large conference room, where they received updates from the agency on the festival programs and event site arrangements.
The '0 o'clock Festival,' held for nine days from August 9 to 17 at Daejeon Station, the old Chungnam Provincial Office section (1 km), and the nearby old downtown commercial district, will start daily at 2 p.m. and continue until midnight (0 o'clock).
Under the catchphrase "Daejeon that never sleeps, fun that never fades," the festival will unfold as a time-travel journey through Daejeon's past, present, and future.
Last year's large-scale street parade, which was held only for three days, will now take place daily. Parade groups featuring diverse themes such as dance, wind instruments, fashion shows, bikes, and traditional folk games will perform, and on August 15, Liberation Day, a special parade by a foreign bagpipe band and military band is scheduled.
Performance opportunities for local cultural artists will also be greatly expanded, with simultaneous performances across 26 venues including busking stages, small theaters, indoor performance halls, and galleries. Starting a week before the event, various pre-festival promotional activities will be held to heighten the festive atmosphere.
The 'K-POP Concert,' featuring top domestic musicians skilled in various genres such as ballad, hip-hop, and trot, will be an event to cool down the midsummer night heat.
To showcase and allow direct experience of Daejeon's status as a science city, the festival will present achievements from Daejeon's four core industries?nano semiconductors, aerospace, bio-health, and defense industry?as well as from Daedeok Innopolis research institutes and local innovative companies.
Programs for the whole family to enjoy together will also be enhanced. The old Chungnam Provincial Office space will be transformed into a family theme park featuring a character theme zone, interaction land, and science experience programs tailored to children's perspectives.
The newly reborn Dreamssi family will greet visitors throughout the festival grounds. The 100-meter-long Kumdori Hill, pop-up stores, Kumdori photo zones installed around the venue, and family members wearing mascot costumes will create joyful moments with attendees.
In line with the 'time travel festival' theme, the event site will be divided into zones representing Daejeon's past, present, and future, with corresponding content presented in each zone.
On the opening day, August 9, the Republic of Korea Air Force's special flight team, the 'Black Eagles,' will perform an air show. The festival will also feature invited performances by citizen delegations and cultural arts groups from 26 sister and friendship cities, as well as a talent show for foreign international students, showcasing its global festival character.
The food zone will feature popular restaurants from Daehung-dong and Seonhwa-dong, along with a traditional herbal tea and food area called Hanbang-e Meokbang, the Jungang Market Food Festa, the 0 o'clock street food stalls, and the Geonmaek Festa, which pairs dried snacks with beer.
Mayor Lee Jang-woo stated, "Our goal is to elevate the Daejeon 0 o'clock Festival to become Asia's number one and one of the world's top three festivals within five years, making it a world-class cultural content representing Daejeon." He added, "We will diligently prepare during the remaining period to address last year's shortcomings, boost the economy, and create a midsummer night festival where people can fully enjoy Daejeon's fun and charm."
