Mokpo Coast Guard Urgently Arrests Suspect on Murder Charges
Assault and Murder Using Work Tools Due to Incompetence
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kwon Oh-seong) urgently arrested crew member B (in his 40s) on the charge of murder at 1:39 a.m. on the 15th in connection with an onboard murder that occurred on vessel A (9.77 tons, registered in Yeonggwang, coastal gillnet fishing, 7 crew members) located 5 km northwest off Nakwoldo, Yeonggwang County.
According to Mokpo Maritime Police on the 17th, at around 12:19 a.m. on the 15th, a report was received that a crew member stabbed the chief deckhand with a weapon on vessel A, and nearby patrol ships were dispatched immediately.
Based on the statements of the crew members that Mr. C (in his 40s, chief deckhand) assaulted Mr. B three times because he was not performing his duties well, and that Mr. B, angered by this, stabbed Mr. C with a work tool, the police are investigating the detailed circumstances.
Upon arrival at the scene, the maritime police continuously performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victim Mr. C, entered a nearby port, and handed him over to the 119 emergency medical team, but it was confirmed that he eventually passed away.
