Anders Opedal, Chairman and CEO of Equinor, met with Choi Sung-an, Vice Chairman of Samsung Heavy Industries, on the 13th to discuss their shared vision for sustainable energy production and cooperation between the two companies to develop Korea's offshore wind industry.
The two companies agreed to utilize Samsung Heavy Industries' Shinhannae Yard in Geoje City as a turbine integration base for Equinor's Ulsan Banditbul-i floating offshore wind power project and to collaborate jointly on project development. As a result, the process of integrating wind turbines into floating offshore wind substructures can now be carried out at Samsung Heavy Industries' Geoje Shinhannae Yard.
Equinor has decided to cooperate with Samsung Heavy Industries to manufacture 50 floating substructures for the Banditbul-i offshore wind power project. As the integration process technology for substructures and turbines, which is also a new industrial field, is transferred to Korea, it is expected that competitiveness in the global market will be strengthened.
Chairman Anders Opedal said, "The Banditbul-i project is a symbolic collaboration that demonstrates the joint efforts of Equinor and Samsung Heavy Industries to accelerate Korea's energy transition."
Vice Chairman Choi said, "The long-term partnership with Equinor will play an important role in the success of this project and in promoting future cooperation in the renewable energy sector."
