"Stop Hellish Jeonse Fraud"... Gangseo-gu Publishes Casebook of Victims' Stories
Partnering with the Korea Association of Realtors and Woori Bank
Featuring Stories of 40 Victims and Prevention Measures
District Mayor: "Committed to Developing Effective Countermeasures Until the End"
"Living day by day feels like hell. Although I won the lawsuit, there is nothing more I can do. In my early 30s, I suddenly have a debt of 100 million won, so I cannot prepare for marriage or raise a child. Please save me." (A, a victim of Jeonse fraud in Hwaggok-dong in their 30s)
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) has published a casebook titled The Trap of Jeonse Fraud - Stories of 40 Victims, compiling the stories of victims of Jeonse fraud, in collaboration with the Korea Association of Realtors and Woori Bank Gangseo-gu Office Branch.
The district is focusing on measures to prevent Jeonse fraud this year, and as part of this effort, it produced the booklet to raise awareness about Jeonse fraud and to inform residents how they can protect their precious security deposits themselves.
The casebook was produced in two formats: a printed booklet and an electronic file. A total of 2,000 printed copies were made and will be primarily distributed to attendees at the Shin Shin Dang Bu! Real Estate Legal Knowledge Special Lecture held at the Gangseo-gu Citizens’ Hall on the 18th of this month. Copies will also be sent to the National Assembly and government agencies. The electronic file is available for anyone to download from the district’s website (Housing/Urban/Real Estate - Jeonse Fraud Prevention Information).
The casebook includes ▲ examples of Jeonse fraud and countermeasures for different situations ▲ stories of victims whose suffering has not ended even after the fraud ▲ results of a full survey of Jeonse fraud victims.
Through the casebook, the district vividly presents the hellish situations victims endure, reasons why various government support policies do not work effectively on the ground, and the relief measures that victims truly want. To prevent further damage, it also clearly explains the various types of Jeonse fraud and how tenants can protect their lump-sum deposits themselves.
To produce the casebook, the district analyzed cases based on statements and Jeonse contracts from over 1,000 victims. Additionally, it received stories from more than 70 victims and selected 40 of these to include in the casebook.
Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, "I offer my deepest condolences and gratitude to the victims who had to face painful memories again to prepare these case reports. We will stand with them until effective measures to eradicate Jeonse fraud and support victims are established."
