Professor Lee advised, "The reason why we need to pay attention to issues of diversity in social welfare studies is that misunderstanding diversity can cause differences in life opportunities as well as social inequality. Social workers must have an understanding of diverse cultures. Also, when communicating with people from different backgrounds, understanding cultural and linguistic barriers must come first. Diversity issues should be recognized and considered from the perspective of the individuals involved."
