CJ OnStyle, Imported Fruit Sales Analysis
Kiwi? Cherry Sales Increased 89%? 329% Last Month
As domestic fruit prices show a steep upward trend, imported fruit sales are unusually strong.
According to CJ OnStyle on the 13th, the sales volume of imported fruits such as kiwi, orange, and cherry in May increased by 87%, 196%, and 329% respectively compared to the previous year. This is due to increased customer demand for reasonably priced imported fruits amid rising prices. The government's extension of tariff quotas on 28 types of imported fruits, including kiwi and cherry, until the second half of the year to stabilize prices also played a role.
In fact, the 'Zespri Sungold Kiwi' broadcast on CJ OnStyle TV Live on the 16th of last month sold over 3,000 sets, selling out completely. Considering that one set contains 28 kiwis, 100,000 kiwis were sold in one hour. Zespri is a premium kiwi brand from New Zealand with a 100-year history. It received great response because customers could quickly receive fresh gold kiwis cleared through customs on May 13th within three days at a reasonable price in the 30,000 KRW range. An encore broadcast is scheduled on CJ OnStyle TV Live at 2:35 PM on the 13th.
With the cherry season in full swing, demand for U.S.-grown cherries is also increasing. Cherries from California, which enjoys abundant sunlight, are popular. Cherries showed the highest growth rate in imported fruit sales on CJ OnStyle in May compared to the previous year. This is thanks to favorable growing conditions in the U.S. this year, which increased U.S. cherry production compared to last year. In addition, Thai mangoes and California oranges also gained popularity.
Besides imported fruits, CJ OnStyle is also focusing on sourcing high-quality domestic fruits at reasonable prices amid high inflation. On the 14th, CJ OnStyle will sell ‘Gyeongbuk Gyeongsan Shinbi Peach’ on its TV Live channel. Shinbi Peach can only be harvested for about three weeks from mid-June to early July, making it a representative seasonal fruit available only in summer. On CJ OnStyle Plus, the representative specialty product of Damyang, ‘Damyang Blueberry,’ will be broadcast on the 13th.

A CJ OnStyle official said, “As domestic fruit production such as apples, watermelons, and pears has declined due to frequent rain and abnormal low temperatures, demand for imported fruits is increasing. Since fresh fruit prices are expected to continue rising until the early autumn new fruit shipments, we will continue to schedule broadcasts where customers can purchase seasonal fruits at reasonable prices.”
