Shinan-gun Holds Major Performance Report Meeting on the Theme of 'Paths Less Traveled'
Sharing Achievements and Future Directions for Military Administration Management
Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Park Woo-ryang) held a report meeting on the major achievements of the 2nd year of the 8th elected administration on the 11th at the county office auditorium.
The report meeting, attended by the press corps, was organized to share the major achievements of the second year of the 8th elected administration and the future direction of county administration to promote the sustainable development of Shinan-gun.
Under the theme "The Road Less Traveled," the changed status of Shinan-gun was emphasized, followed by presentations on the major achievements and operational directions of the county administration.
The presentation outlined five major county administration directions currently being pursued to instill pride in living on the islands and being a citizen of Shinan-gun: △ Shinan responding to population extinction and regional disappearance △ Islands full of culture and arts (1 Island 1 Museum) △ Islands blooming with flowers and lush forests all year round (1 Island 1 Garden) △ Discovering income-generating projects through various policies △ Economic stability utilizing local resources (sunlight, wind pension).

Despite difficult conditions such as being ranked first in high-risk areas for population extinction and having a low financial independence ratio, Shinan-gun saw an increase of 179 people in population last year. In addition to population growth, it has emerged as a tourist destination attracting over one million visitors annually.
Furthermore, it is moving swiftly to lead culture and arts, which are future growth engines. It is attracting works by world-renowned artists and is promoting works by Yangi Yukinori, Olafur Eliasson, Antony Gormley, Mario Botta, and artist Park Eun-sun.
Also, the 1 Island 1 Museum project, which aims to establish symbolic art museums on each island, is progressing smoothly.
Alongside this, cultural festivals are also being promoted. The "Piano Island" festival, which promotes Shinan through the piano instrument, and the "Shammak (Champagne-Makgeolli)" festival, which revives past ties with France beyond Korea, are enhancing the unique charm of the islands with diverse and distinctive stories.
The 1 Island 1 Garden project is also underway. Not only on the main island composed of 14 towns and townships but also on small islands such as Seondo, Byeongpungdo, and Okdo, flowers and trees are breathing new life into the landscape.
Shinan-gun is aiming to develop into a world-class island garden and is taking proactive measures such as reorganizing dedicated organizations and enacting ordinances for systematic management.
Youth fishing boat rental projects, fully occupied housing projects, and sunlight and wind pensions derived from natural resources are providing jobs and economic stability. By giving hope to returnees to farming and fishing and preventing outmigration, it is actively responding to population extinction.
In addition, efforts are being made to improve living conditions and quality of life through infrastructure projects. Projects such as the Jangsan-Zara and Chupo-Bigeum inter-island bridges and road facility improvements from Amtae Sinseok to Sugok are underway to reduce traffic congestion through alignment improvements and expansions.
