Pukyong National University Student Selected as 'Young Scientist' by North Pacific Marine Science Organization
Doctoral Student Nam Soyeon Attends 2024 Annual Meeting in the US
National Pukyong University (President Jang Youngsoo) announced on the 11th that Soyeon Nam, a doctoral student in the Department of Marine Biology (advisor: Hyun Sangyoon), has been selected as a “Young Scientist” to receive support for attending the 2024 Annual Meeting of the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES-2024).
Soyeon Nam was selected through the Young Scientist Selection Review for PICES-2024, which was held during the Spring Academic Conference of the Korean Society of Oceanography at the Jeju International Convention Center.
PICES is an intergovernmental international organization established for the effective management of the marine environment and academic exchange in the North Pacific region, with six member countries: Korea, the United States, Canada, Russia, China, and Japan.
With this selection, Soyeon Nam will attend the upcoming PICES Annual Meeting to be held in Honolulu, USA, with support for airfare and registration fees.
Nam received high marks by presenting in English a paper that evaluated how resources change in response to environmental changes affecting marine organisms, using a length-based model, during the selection process that aimed to choose about five young scientists in the marine field nationwide.
