Public Institution Employee Throws Drink and Causes Disturbance at "Mat Isanghae" Cafe
At a cafe in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, the police launched an investigation after a customer caused a disturbance by throwing a drink cup, claiming the beverage tasted strange. The man, known to be an employee of a public institution in Uijeongbu City, reportedly threatened to shut down the business while revealing his identity during the commotion.
According to the police on the 10th, a report was received that around 5:40 p.m. on the 9th, a man in his 40s threw a drink cup at the cafe owner and kiosk on the terrace of a cafe in Nokyang-dong, Uijeongbu City. The cafe owner, Mr. A, stated, "An intoxicated customer said the taste of the ade was strange, so I remade it, but he instead cursed and threw the drink. I was hit by the drink, and the kiosk, POS machine, and deck were contaminated, forcing us to suspend operations."
Mr. A also posted about the incident on an online community for self-employed business owners on the 9th. In his post, he wrote, "When I protested, asking if throwing drinks and spitting cigarettes inside the store was appropriate behavior, the other party hurled numerous curses. While strongly protesting, he revealed he was a public corporation employee and said he would prevent us from operating." He also added, "After reporting to the police, when asked if he was a public corporation employee, he then said he was a city hall employee." Mr. A expressed, "I am very scared of possible retaliation and don’t know how to respond."
The man is reported to be an employee of the Uijeongbu Urban Corporation. The Uijeongbu Urban Corporation stated, "Although the incident occurred during a private gathering between individuals, we will strictly take action against the employee involved according to internal regulations." They also said, "We sincerely offer our condolences and apologies to the cafe owner," and "Depending on the investigation results, additional measures will be taken."
