Ulsan City Selected as Best Institution in Forestry Sector in This Year's Joint Government Evaluation
Recognition of Achievements in Five Indicators Including Forest Resource Development
Ulsan City has been selected as the top institution in the "2024 Government Joint Evaluation for the Forestry Sector" for its major forestry policy projects.
The Korea Forest Service conducts a joint evaluation every year targeting 17 metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide, assessing the implementation of major forestry projects across five key indicators such as sustainable forest resource development.
This year, the city achieved high scores in all five indicators: ▲Sustainable forest resource development ▲Establishment of a landslide prevention and response system ▲Wildfire prevention performance ▲Forest pest and disease control performance ▲Efforts to promote wood utilization, making it the best local government in the forestry sector.
In particular, the city received high marks in the wildfire prevention category, which had previously been rated low each year, by implementing new projects such as the removal of flammable materials from forest-adjacent areas?a pledge project of the 8th popularly elected administration?and introducing a wildfire monitoring system using advertising balloon (ad balloon) drones for the first time in the country. As a result, there were no incineration wildfires reported.
Additionally, the city achieved a 140% accomplishment rate in establishing a landslide prevention and response system, receiving the highest evaluation ever in the disaster safety sector.
To meet the evaluation for efforts to promote wood utilization, which was changed from a qualitative to a quantitative indicator last year, the city enacted ordinances and encouraged the use of domestic wood, striving to achieve its goals.
An official from Ulsan City stated, "We will continue to do our best in promoting forestry projects so that we can be continuously selected as the top institution, not only for the safety of our citizens but also for the preservation of our beautiful land."
