Dongmyung University Ranks 34th Globally in Leadership Category of WURI World Innovative Universities Ranking
President Jeon Ho-hwan's University Innovation Achievements Including Introduction of Do-ing Education
Dongmyung University (President Ho-Hwan Jun) ranked 34th in the Leadership category at the 2024 WURI (World University Rankings for Innovation) Conference, which was held in Switzerland on the 7th.
Launched in 2020 and now in its fifth year, WURI evaluates universities primarily based on innovation.
Rankings are announced for the top 100 universities worldwide in each of 13 categories, including Industrial Application, Student Mobility and Openness, Entrepreneurship, Generative AI Application, and Leadership. The overall ranking is announced up to 300th place.
Unlike THE and QS, which focus on academic performance (research and reputation), WURI places emphasis on university innovation.
This year, a total of 2,880 innovation reports were submitted by 1,072 universities worldwide. The evaluation is conducted by university presidents from participating institutions, who assess the reports, and the final rankings are determined by the WURI Evaluation Committee based on these results.
Dongmyung University submitted its innovation achievements from the past three years and ranked 34th in the Leadership category. Among Korean universities, Incheon National University ranked 7th, Yeungnam University 35th, Ewha Womans University 48th, Ajou University 71st, Taejae University 72nd, and Seoul National University 80th.
Since President Ho-Hwan Jun took office in 2021, Dongmyung University has achieved significant innovation.
Innovations include the introduction of the "Three No's" (No Grade Level, No Credits, No Teaching) Do-ing Education (an education focused on challenge and practice, fostering the ability to find various answers rather than just one and the capacity to thrive in any world), donating university land to the state to attract Gyeongsang National University Animal Hospital and Green Startup Town to its campus, establishing the world's first College of Companion Animals and building a Pet Park, and launching a Waterloo-style Co-op three-semester pilot program with policy support from Busan City. Thanks to these various innovations, Dongmyung University was the only private university in Busan to receive an A grade in all three categories of the 2023 University Innovation Evaluation.
