"Shopping While Running"... 2,000 People Flock to Baemin's '2024 Jangbogo Open Run'
Running Event Combining Running and Grocery Shopping
Held on the 9th at Seoul Olympic Park
About 2,000 people gathered for the '2024 Jangbogi Open Run' hosted by Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok.
The event, held on the 9th at Olympic Park in Songpa-gu, Seoul, is a unique running marathon combining running and grocery shopping. Participants fill their shopping baskets with desired items before the start, and if they complete the 5km course, they get to keep all the items in their baskets. Baemin set up a 'Deuktem Zone' at the starting point, preparing about 60,000 products including food, beverages, and daily necessities.
The Jangbogi Open Run attracted great interest even before the event began. Baemin announced that both early bird and general tickets sold out within one minute of release in April. Many photos certifying successful registration were also posted on online communities and blogs.
The approximately 2,000 participants ran a course starting from the Peace Plaza at Olympic Park, passing Soma Museum of Art, Mongchontoseong, Songpa Women’s Soccer Field, Seongnaecheon walking trail, and returning to the Peace Plaza. They filled their shopping baskets with desired items and started sequentially in groups from 9 a.m.

Participants who completed the course received a commemorative medal along with a Baemin grocery shopping coupon pack. The event did not involve time recording or ranking competition, which led to positive responses from participants. Baek Jong-hoon (40), who enjoys running as a hobby, said, "I started running just over a year ago and participated with members of my running club. I’m happy to have completed the run without discarding a single needed item." Han Bit-na (29) shared, "I filled my basket mainly with useful items for household cooking, such as beef bone broth and various sauces. The course layout, scenery, and weather were all great, so I enjoyed walking and running with my colleagues."
After about two hours of running, awards were given, including the 'Best Deuktem Award' for the participant who completed the course with the heaviest basket. The heaviest basket weighed 19.2 kg.
All proceeds from the Jangbogi Open Run participation fees will be donated to 19 child welfare centers under the Songpa-gu Office in Seoul.
