Five Medical Schools in Daegu and Gyeongbuk Select 61.8% Through Regional Talent Admissions... Gyeongbuk Office of Education Announces Analysis Results
357 Selected Out of 575 Quota
Daegu Catholic University Records Highest Rate at 65%
The Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) announced on the 5th the results of its analysis of the 2025 university admission plan, which reflects the finalized medical school enrollment quota as of May 31, and the 2025 early admission guidelines.
This announcement was prepared to provide countermeasures for local high school students by analyzing the expanded medical school quota for 2025 and the increasing trend of regional talent admission quotas, based on an in-depth analysis by the Gyeongbuk College Admission Support Center.
The '2025 Medical School Admission Analysis Results' includes the number of students to be selected by each admission type nationwide, changes in the minimum CSAT score requirements for medical schools, the number and proportion of students to be selected through the regional talent admission system, and an analysis of the number of students eligible for medical school admission compared to the number of local students.
According to the analysis, out of the nationwide medical school admission quota of 4,565 students, 1,927 are expected to be selected through the regional talent admission system, accounting for 42% of the total medical school admissions.
Among the five regional medical schools in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk area, 357 out of 575 students (61.8%) are expected to be selected through the regional talent admission system. Daegu Catholic University is expected to have the highest proportion, with 65.0% of its admissions allocated to the regional talent admission system.
In particular, at Dongguk University WISE Campus, out of 76 regional talent admission slots, 50 are allocated to students from the Daegu-Gyeongbuk area, and the remaining 26 are exclusively for students from the Gyeongbuk area, making it the only medical school in Daegu-Gyeongbuk to operate a separate admission track for Gyeongbuk students.
Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education, stated, "Although the number of students selected through the regional talent admission system has increased, the minimum CSAT score requirements for 2025 have either remained the same or become more stringent compared to 2024, making it more challenging to meet the minimum grade. We will strengthen university admission counseling activities and establish systematic and proactive admission support policies to help students improve their CSAT grades and provide tailored support for university admissions."
