Cheon Ha-ram: "We Will Create an Alternative Special Investigation Act for Chae Sang-byeong That Even the People Power Party Finds Hard to Reject"
"21st National Assembly, Regret Over Frequent Use of Veto Power"
"Ruling Party Should Not Just Unite with the President"
Cheon Ha-ram, floor leader of the Reform New Party, met with Choo Kyung-ho, floor leader of the People Power Party, at the National Assembly on the 4th and said, "The Reform New Party will take the lead in creating an alternative to the special prosecution law for Chae Sang-byeong that even the People Power Party will find difficult to reject." He added, "Our floor leader Choo is very rational, and there are many rational and open-minded young politicians in the People Power Party, so I ask for your cooperation in discussing and creating alternatives for the Chae Sang-byeong special prosecution law together."
Floor leader Cheon also urged President Yoon Seok-yeol and the ruling party to increase communication with the opposition party. He said, "Recently, there was a commotion over whether to discard or keep the orchid sent by the president," and added, "Because I thought mutual respect between constitutional institutions?the presidency and the National Assembly?was necessary rather than personal feelings, I even posted a photo of watering the orchid." He continued, "However, I hope that mutual respect will also be shown in the direction of the president respecting the legislative branch," and emphasized, "I hope the ruling party does not unite only around the president but actively communicates with the opposition as members of the legislature, showing unity that the public will see as a much better National Assembly."
Floor leader Cheon said, "One of the regrets I had while observing the 21st National Assembly from the outside was that the authority of the legislature was undermined in areas where vetoes did not necessarily have to be overused," and added, "The Reform New Party intends to actively propose compromises or alternatives for bills that were vetoed, especially those like the Nursing Act where there was not much disagreement."
