President Yoon Trapped in a Box Range According to Each Poll
Realmeter Maintains Early 30% Range for 8 Weeks
Gallup Records Lowest Approval Since Inauguration on 31st Survey
President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating for his administration has not broken out of the box range since the general election. Breaking through this box range is crucial to regain momentum.
According to a public opinion poll released on the 3rd by polling firm Realmeter (commissioned by Energy Economy Newspaper, conducted from the 27th to the 31st nationwide among 2,513 voters aged 18 and over, with 97% mobile and 3% landline ARS method), President Yoon's approval rating in the 5th week of May (78 weeks since inauguration) was 30.6%, up 0.3 percentage points from the previous survey. Negative evaluations of his administration's performance were 65.9%, down 0.2 percentage points from the previous survey.
Before the general election, President Yoon's approval rating was 37.3% (1st week of April), but it has remained in the low 30% range for eight consecutive weeks since the election defeat.
Gallup's regular survey shows an even worse situation. According to Gallup's own regular public opinion poll released on the 31st of last month (conducted from the 28th to the 30th nationwide among 1,001 people aged 18 and over via mobile phone interviewer survey), President Yoon's approval rating dropped 3 percentage points from the previous week to 21%. Negative evaluations rose 3 percentage points to 70%. This approval rating is the lowest since his inauguration. It is also the first time that negative evaluations have exceeded 60% and reached 70%. President Yoon's approval rating has stagnated in the low 20% range after plummeting from 34% (4th week of March) to 23% (3rd week of April) following the election defeat.
