Promoting Samnak Ecological Park for National Garden Status in Eulsukdo and Nakdong River Area
On the morning of the 31st, the city of Busan held the 'New Media Members Day' and conducted the 'Nakdong River Basin Ecological Preservation Campaign' at the Eulsukdo Ecological Park area.
'New Media Members Day' is a workshop attended by about 60 citizens and foreigners who were selected this year as New Media Members, a group of citizen reporters.
The event was planned to facilitate the exchange and communication of policy and promotional ideas among New Media Members, who represent a diverse range of ages from their 20s to 60s and nationalities including India and El Salvador.
During this activity, New Media Members explored the ecological environment of Eulsukdo, a renowned migratory bird habitat with pristine natural surroundings, through an ecological tour of the Nakdong River Basin and a visit to the Eco Center exhibition hall. The event also included a campaign to preserve the ecosystem of the Nakdong River Basin by removing invasive plant species (Yangmiyeokchwi) from the area.
A cultural commentator accompanied the activity, providing detailed explanations about the wetlands of the Nakdong River Basin and the past and future of Eulsukdo.
Taking this activity as an opportunity, the New Media Members plan to use their influence to promote Eulsukdo and the Nakdong River Basin.
Lee Jaewon, a blog influencer with over 10,000 followers on social networking services (SNS), said, "I was able to explore various parts of Eulsukdo and the Nakdong River Basin with commentary, places I had only visited for coverage before," and added, "I will promote the beautiful natural scenery of Eulsukdo, which has transformed from a landfill into a treasure trove of nature, so that more citizens can visit and enjoy this space frequently."
In particular, to raise public awareness and interest in Samnak Ecological Park, which is part of the Nakdong River Basin and is preparing to be designated as a National Garden, the New Media Members plan to take the lead in its promotion.
Samnak Ecological Park has been designated as the 'No. 1 Local Garden', and in order to be elevated to National Garden status, the park must be developed in close cooperation with citizens over the next three years.
Fatima, a New Media Member from El Salvador who is actively participating, said, "I am raising my child in Busan, and through my activities as a New Media Member, I am happy to discover many places in Busan to visit with my child," and added, "Through this activity, I learned about the past and present of the Nakdong River Basin, the future we will create together, and the beautiful natural environment of Eulsukdo. I want to share this with the world."
Kim Jae-hak, spokesperson for the city, said, "I hope that the New Media Members, who play a pivotal role in promoting our city, enjoyed the beautiful natural scenery of Busan and shared the value of coexistence between nature and humans through the Eulsukdo and Nakdong River Basin Ecological Preservation Campaign," and added, "I also hope that the New Media Members will help build public consensus for the elevation of Samnak Ecological Park to National Garden status and actively promote 'Busan as a world-class low-carbon green city.'"
