What About the Future of Education in Gwangjin?... Gwangjin-gu Holds Roundtable Discussion
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the ‘2024 Gwangjin Future Education Roundtable Discussion’ on the 31st at the district office auditorium to hear voices on educational issues.
Started in 2017, the ‘Roundtable Discussion’ is a forum where various participants such as students, parents, and teachers review educational issues and communicate about development directions. The goal is to gather opinions from participants interested in the education field to promote more effective projects.
Co-hosted by Gwangjin-gu, Seongdong-Gwangjin Office of Education, and Konkuk University College of Education, this discussion was attended by 115 people including elementary, middle, high school, and university students, parents, teachers, and the general public, who came together to brainstorm about the future of education in Gwangjin.
The discussion topics included ▲eliminating educational gaps ▲support for field experience learning ▲proposals for Gwangjin future education ▲and proposals for the (tentative name) Gwangjin 4th Industrial Experience Center programs. This time, to allow a deeper approach to educational issues, the discussion time was extended, and results were shared through an open chat room for participants.
In the first part, to ease participants’ tension and build intimacy, an ice-breaking game was held before the main group discussions began. The groups were divided into 12 teams by discussion topic, each table accompanied by a professional facilitator and an assistant facilitator who was a student from Konkuk University College of Education, actively drawing out participants’ opinions and organizing the outcomes.
The second part involved presentations of the topic-based discussion results from the first part, followed by a feedback session among participants, creating a lively forum for debate.
Participants proposed over 1,000 diverse educational opinions, including ▲expanding eligibility for ‘Seoul Run’ ▲establishing a department (team) to support field experience and providing a platform ▲offering programs to cultivate character and creativity.
A mini discussion and vote were held regarding the operation of the (tentative name) 4th Industrial Experience Center, scheduled to open on the second basement floor of the new district office building next year. The results ranked ▲1st - Future Job Experience Hall (48%) ▲2nd - Experience with the latest AI technologies such as CHAT GPT (37%) ▲3rd - Augmented reality experiences at museums and art galleries (35%).
Gwangjin-gu stated that it will actively reflect the various discussed opinions in district administration. It will also continue to cooperate with related organizations such as the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and Seongdong-Gwangjin Office of Education to strengthen the substance of educational projects.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “There is a saying that it takes a whole village to raise a child. I hope you will vividly convey the diverse voices from the frontline educational sites,” and added, “Through the Gwangjin Future Education District project, we will do our best to actively incorporate opinions so that youth can be guaranteed equal educational opportunities and have various learning experiences.”
Meanwhile, as part of the Gwangjin Future Education District project, Gwangjin-gu is actively promoting various activities such as ▲supporting community-linked curricula ▲village schools ▲future society job experiences ▲Gwangjin university student mentor groups ▲and AI talent cultivation programs visiting schools.
