21 Bullets Recovered... Investigation Underway into Leakage Circumstances
A citizen fishing at Sammok Port on Yeongjongdo Island in Incheon discovered more than 20 live bullets, prompting an investigation by the police and military authorities.
On the 29th, a post titled "Found shell casings while fishing? Are these live bullets?" was uploaded to an online community. The author, Mr. A, began by saying, "I found more than 10 shell casings while fishing at Sammok Port in Incheon."
Mr. A explained the situation, saying, "The first live bullets I found were four," and "After the police arrived, I found six more nearby." The military and police who responded to the scene searched the surrounding coastline and have so far found six 5.56mm rifle bullets and 21 pistol bullets (38 caliber). Including the shell casings Mr. A found, a total of 27 bullets were discovered.
Mr. A said, "The military unit withdrew from the scene around 23:25," and added, "Even after the military left, I found three more bullets using my phone's flashlight. I don't know how the military manages their ammunition." He continued, "After reporting the shell casings I found, I packed up my fishing rod and went home."

The military has identified the collected 38 caliber bullets as ammunition intended for overseas export. The remaining bullets are all for domestic use. The military is recovering all the discovered live bullets and investigating whether they are live ammunition and the circumstances under which the bullets were leaked.
