[Click eStock] "Hanmi Semiconductor Benefits from Micron's Growth"
Hyundai Motor Securities analyzed that the U.S. Department of Commerce aims to secure 20% of AI semiconductor production through onshoring (attracting foreign companies' domestic production facilities and expanding domestic companies' home production facilities) by 2030, and 40% by 2040. They are building infrastructure within the U.S., and the role of Micron is becoming increasingly important.
Minjung Kwak, a researcher at Hyundai Motor Securities, explained, "Micron announced on the 25th of last month that it will build state-of-the-art memory HBM fabs at Boise, Idaho, which will start operation by the end of next year, and in Clay, New York, which will start operation in 2028, supported by subsidies worth 8.4 trillion KRW from the U.S. administration." She continued, "Based on subsidies of 1.7 trillion KRW from the Japanese government, a HBM fab is also being constructed in Hiroshima, aiming to start operation by the end of 2027," adding, "the Hiroshima fab will have a total scale of 138k."
She analyzed, "the Hiroshima fab will apply the 1у process to reduce HBM costs and respond to HBM4/4E through the application of EUV layers," and predicted that "Micron will actively expand its market share." Furthermore, she emphasized, "In addition to the existing Taiwan fabs, Micron will expand production capacity on a larger scale than market expectations through its U.S. and Japanese fabs."
