"I'm Mom's Friend"... Attempted Abduction Report of Elementary Student in Asan
Man in his 30s Booked and Under Investigation
Recently, rumors that someone attempted to abduct an elementary school student in Asan, Chungnam have spread through social networking services (SNS), causing residents to express anxiety.
According to Yonhap News on the 29th, the previous afternoon, near an apartment complex entrance close to A Elementary School in Asan, the driver of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) stopped and approached B, a student attending A Elementary School who was on the sidewalk. The driver lured B by saying, "My mom is sick, I am a friend of your mom, get in quickly, let's go to your mom."
Sensing something suspicious, B ignored the driver's words, reported the incident to the apartment security office, and also informed his parents. The police, who were dispatched after receiving a report from B's father, analyzed closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and found the SUV on a nearby road about two and a half hours later.
The police have taken into custody a man in his 30s suspected to be the suspect and are investigating him. However, the man reportedly denies the charge of attempted luring. The police are conducting a detailed investigation into the circumstances of the incident with the man.
