[News Terms] AI Robots Teach Classes Instead of Teachers... 'Edutech'
On the 29th, LG Electronics showcased educational information and communication (IT) devices such as the on-device AI laptop 'LG Gram,' Chromebook, Whalebook, tablet PCs, electronic whiteboards that enhance class efficiency, and AI Cloi robots at the '2024 Korea Glocal Future Education Expo' held at the Yeosu World Expo Hall in Jeollanam-do.
At the exhibition hall designed with a future classroom concept, the 'AI Gram Link' feature allows sharing of class materials and screens without an internet connection, and up to nine screens can be wirelessly displayed on a large electronic whiteboard for fast and efficient lessons. AI collects learning materials in real time, enabling teachers to understand students' learning levels and provide one-on-one customized education by level, while a translation system removes language barriers. The 'LG Cloi' robot, equipped with AI-based autonomous driving features, shares audiovisual materials and educational screens on displays mounted on the front and rear, serving as an assistant teacher to support lessons.
Naver will also unveil for the first time the scenario of its AI tutor specialized in mathematics, 'HyperCLOVA X AI Tutor,' at this expo. It plans to introduce various cases where its technology is applied in educational settings, including ▲the 'AI Platform School Support Comprehensive Data Room' based on HyperCLOVA X ▲prompt experiences related to educational tasks using the large-scale AI development tool 'CLOVA Studio' ▲and future classroom lesson demonstrations using Whalebook and Whale Space.
Google will reveal AI-based educational features based on 'Google for Education.' It can automatically create lesson plans and generate questions from YouTube videos. It also has a text-to-speech function, allowing chatbot-style AI to substitute for native-speaking teachers.
Industries that combine IT technologies such as media, design, software (SW), virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and 3D with education to enhance learners' educational effectiveness are called 'EduTech (Education+Technology)' or 'EdTech.' Beyond simply providing education online through e-learning, it offers personalized education tailored to individual levels, providing new learning experiences and playing a crucial role in transforming traditional educational settings. Recently, with the addition of generative AI technology, the educational paradigm is changing even faster, leading to fierce competition among global big tech companies to dominate AI education.
